Indianapolis – Growing in Terre Haute, Vanessa Richardson’s introduction to the game was through his father.
George Richardson diagnosed several sclerosis, while still in his 20s, will take Vanessa to basketball games in Indiana State, Terre Haute and at the coalts training camp in the high school game.
“My father was my best friend,” said Vanessa. “I tell people all the time that a social activity in Indiana is going into a high school basketball game. That’s what we have done.”
30-year-old Richardson came to life full cycle this week, which was an in-ina host for the game of pacers since 2015-17 during his junior and senior years at the University of India. George was a regular in Pacers Games while working for the team during the time of Vanessa. Although he was in a wheelchair, he could never stop him from going to sports and supporting his daughter. When he died at 62 pm in April 2022, he was crushing for Vanessa.
“What we talk about will have to watch the game together,” he said. “I was thinking a lot about him. When I was an in-arena host for pacers, he lived here all the time.”
Richardson, a Terre Haute North Graduate, said she felt that Indianapolis is “a huge city” when she reached Uindi in 2013 collapse. But she immediately works in her passion for the game in the WICR 88.7 FM, owned by UIN. It was a real -world experience for Richardson, who worked as a disc jockey and sports reporter.
“Going to the University of India was the key to my success,” Richardson said, who was also an independent sports correspondent for “Bob and Tom Show” in college. “As a 19 -year -old freshman, I was in the colts and the pacers’ locker room interviewed the players. After graduating from Uindy, Richardson was hired as a reporter and anchor for an NBC affiliated WLWT-TV, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati. In WLWT, he covered high school football, worked as a morning traffic anchor and covered Bangles and Reds among other general assignment events.

“Then I took a jump of faith and started a sports talk radio show in Houston from 10 to 12 every morning,” Richardson said. “Talking two hours a day helped me grow. It was fun to return to my radio roots. I was very much. Then when the rockets opened the job, I was already in Houston and covered the team, so it felt like an ideal fit.”
In October of 2022, he was hired as a sideline reporter for rockets for the Space City Home Network (Houston Regional Sports Network, East AT and T Sportsate Southwest).
“I would say that Houston has become my second home,” Richardson said. “When you work in this industry, you are lucky if you have some places that feel like this.”
Indianapolis is definitely home to Richardson, who has felt the pain of nostalgia during the NBA final. When he worked for pacers, Miles Turner was a crook.
“I will see him in Prime 47 after the game,” Richardson said. “I was with my parents and he was with his parents. Neither were we 21.”
Richardson was originally just hosting his new digital show, which was called ‘Hoop Dreams’, an ESPN pregem show. The radio sideline reporter was added to his plate when television sideline reporter Lisa Salter recalled Game 2, 3 and 4 from being with his sick mother. Radio sideline reporter George Cedano was shifted to fill the shoes of Salter and Richardson received a call.
“My assignment was hosting ‘Hoop Dreams’ for the Western Final and Final,” he said. “I am excited about the show. We are not trying to follow the NBA Countdown. It is a free-floeing show around the league with fashion, trends and subjects. We had a Rick Fox Stop. We’re trying to be a good hanging.”
Richardson is well prepared for such a role. Before Game 3 on Wednesday, he looked around and took when he saw Oscar Robertson sitting next to Regi Miller and Edgarin James.
“This is a warm welcome,” he said. “It means so much that I used to work regularly in the game to see so many people.”
Of course, a person he wanted him to be here: his father. She is not here without her. He taught him how to treat people well and work hard. Those lessons have served his daughter well.
“Everyone sees what you are doing right now,” Richardson said. “They are not watching you waking up at 2 o’clock to shoot high school football games and morning traffic. You have to believe because it is an industry piece.
