NFL is upgrading an area of rules.
There is no “chain gang” for a long time … mostly.
During the 2025 NFL owners’ meetings, the use of a hawk-i system was approved to measure the first down.
As ESPN,
The official use of Sony’s Hawk-I Virtual Measurement System, which includes six 8k cameras for optical tracking of the ball status, was announced at the annual league meeting in Palm Beach, Florida.
The league said in a news release, “The technology is an efficient option for the process of running chains on the field and after manually measuring whether the ball has been seen at a distance of 10 yards.”
Recently after AFC Championship Games, measures become a hot theme, where Buffalo billJosh Alan fell down late in the game.
Apart from better ball placement, new technology can also speed up games.
The classic chain-gang measurement will still be on the edge as a secondary remedy.
The bill wire will continue to provide updates in 2025 offsen.
