Lakeland- In the fall of 2005, twenty years ago, Luckland won its second out of three straight state titles, and Lake Gibson was coming out of the back-to-back state runner-up finish, which was leaving 9–4 as regional runner-ups.
And Cathleen?
Red Devils ahead 10–3 and were regional runners-up after leaving 19–4 in the last two sessions.
It was an era in which Lakeland, Lake Gibson and Kathleen were all consecutive winners and playoff teams, some Kenny Kelly would love to see the return. Kelly, who started her first spring practice this week as Kathleen’s new head coach, expects her share and continuously win in Cathleen.
Kelly said, “I am hoping that we all do so because there is nothing like going and playing in your local schools, and both of you are with competitive and good records.” “Hopefully for all American coaches, we can achieve this thing. I want to make it like a dad county. Polic has become another country in the county where you come to the state championship to go to the state championship.”
Kelly has cut her work for her in Kathleen, where the program is at its lowest point in a quarter century. When Richard Tate took over in 2000 after Red Devils left 0-10, Kathleen was 1-9 to 2-8, before it finally changed things.
Kathleen is also coming out of the 0–10 season and its final winning season as Irving Striland left the post after 11 years in 2018 and in 2019 only one defeat season came. Current Tenorock coach Anthony troutman brought Cathleen to a record of 6–5. Red Devils are 11-49 since 2019.
“The biggest thing is that there are children here, they want to learn,” Kelly said. “They want a vision. They want a light at the end of the tunnel. They want a purpose to do things and do things, and as a coaching staff, my job is to give children a purpose, understand them, tell them, tell them, hey, you have some care here, you have some care that is going to take care of you, not only in the whole area, not only in the whole area, but also not even rather than rather.
“There have been some things that have happened in the last few years, which dump these sports programs, but I think it is the community and this, these children have to learn to win again. Once they understand what it happens to win and the purpose of being great, we are going to make something special here.”
Kelly renews an impressive athletic in the position. Plant City Native had a four-game standout in Baseball, Football, Basketball and track at Tampa Catholic in the late 90s. He was part of the state championship basketball teams of schools, which were as a sophomore and broke the school record in long jump.
In Baseball, Kelly took Tampa Catholic to a state championship for her junior year and was given the 20th best probability status by Baseball America.
In football, he started in quarterbacks for three sessions and threw 7,486 yards and 77 touchdowns.
Kelly was designed by Tampa Bay Devils rays in the second round of the 1997 draft and signed with Miami to play football. He started his Sophomore year in Miami, throwing 1,913 yards and 15 for touchdowns, but left football to focus on baseball. He played Pro Ball for 11 years, in most minors, although 26 games were played in big companies in two sessions.
Kelly’s coaching experience includes the headball coaches of mulberry and there were quality control analysts at FIU for the season.
One of the biggest challenges in changing Kathleen’s program is to maintain top athletes at the program. While the early quarter of the previous season has been transferred by Kevin Hendrix to Lakeland, the Red Devils has a core of young players, which has been built around, including the lead Rashar Zeveen Mitchell. The 5-Foot-10 back 604 yards was compiled at a distance of 802 all-pest yard.
Kelly said, “She has been put in 10 to 12 pounds in the last month, and one half between our workouts, and she is going to be our workheors this year.” “He is a couple-game boy, weightlifting and football, and in fact he is going to be a three-Sports star next year because he is going to do something.”
Wide receiver Rasherd Kelly is another three-sport athlete, which had 40 receptions in the previous season, and Marcus Bankstone, another growing junior, 19 catches and 25.3 yards per catch. He is expected to be a major factor of crime this season.
“We are going to change the story here,” Kelly said. “I think as far as discipline is, you have to be disciplined. We have just got to establish and develop these children, understand what a student-athlete is considered, and I think there will be victory and disadvantages. We have just got to develop these children and give them a vision to give them a vision, and we can go from there.”
