Jack Draper is on the verge of converting Novak Djokovic in the top five of the world rankings to the top five before his Madrid Open Quarter Finals against Matio Arranaldi.
British No. 1 Draper sent 11th seeded Tommy Paul 6–2 6-2 on Wednesday to book his first quarter-finals in the Clay-Cort ATP 1000 tournament.
The 23 -year -old said that he was firm to improve his results on the surface this season and is the most ranked player on Tuesday after Alexander Zerev and Taylor Fritz, and not playing in Madrid with Carlos Alkaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Draper will take the unsecured Arnoldi on Thursday afternoon, which gave the third consecutive defeat to Djokovic in the second round last week. If the Draper wins, he will overtake Djokovic in the live rankings and enter the top five for the first time.
Djokovic, who has also taken out of the Italian Open next week, has not won a title since the Paris Olympics in the last summer and however, he reached the Miami Open final in March, losing his initial match in four of the last five events.
Draper will also take third place in the ranking ‘Race to Turin’, if he reaches the semi -finals, won the biggest title of his career in Indian Wales in March and reached another final in Doha last month.
Draper lost in the first round of the French Open in the last season, but is feeling more confident on the surface and believes that his hard work is paying with his run in the Madrid quarter -finals.
Draper told Sky Sports, “I think it’s just time until I do anything good on the soil,” Draper told Sky Sports. “When I was young, I always liked the surface.

“This is now a bit of a different level, obviously. It feels good to try and prove myself and everyone else that I am a good player on this surface and I am dangerous.
“At this stage it is about speed and confidence and especially on this surface I think it’s just more matches, more time is competing against the world’s best players and I really liked it.
“Perhaps for the UK players or who often do not play on the surface, they go with the mentality that they are not going to be great on it, so it can prevent them from going forward.
“While last year I have suffered some initial losses, this year I have been a big goal to prove that I can really play well [on clay] And I know that if I want to be a top player then I have to do it. ,
