For those who did not spend much time at the Legends Stadium before Friday or otherwise Villa Hollenge personally, Flathed Junior made it official: he could fly.
AA Track and Field Meat Hollenstiner in the state finished a lap around his home track in 47.22 seconds. To say that he has won his second direct 400 title, it is an understanding: leading eight-packs of runners less than 50 seconds, he broke the 8-year-old all-class record at the event.
Helena High’s Cender Mozar withdrew back 47.52 in 2017.
“I really didn’t expect it,” said Hollengeer. “It was a big jump for me, but I did it. It looks great.”
His previous individual record was 48.10, on 3 May, Archie was run in Row Invitational. In the divisionals last week, he made a false start. Friday, he was unbeatable.
He said, “It is just going out of there and has gone as hard as possible, and try not to slow down the last 100,” he said.
It was an impressive race for Braves: Flatheds Senior Lane Chains were second in 47.99; Ben Blivan scored 49.67 runs in fifth place.
Wilson Schmidt of Belgrade, who won before 800 on Friday, was second at 48.31.
400 scored through nine incidents for 20 of the 34 points of the flathedhead. Glacier, Owen Theal finished second at 34.5, winning 3,200. Helena had 59 points on Saturday.
Hollennar added fifth -ranked finish in the long jump, which was won by Baz McKini of Billings Sky.
“I clearly wanted to do better than today,” Hollenteer, who would run 200, 300 hurdles and triple jump on Saturday, said. “I did not PR, but there was a good mark (21–9) for the end of the season.
“We were not feeling very good while starting today. We did not win four -B -1. But after that (400) our points should be very good. I think we are in a great place to go out and compete tomorrow.”
Helena won the short relay (Flathed was third) and won from Jackson Legorg in high jump.
In addition to the Theal, the glacier scored big points in shot put, where Estal hit 53 feet, 3-inch PR to lead a 2-3-4 wolfpack finish with Ben Winters and Dylan Smith. Galatin’s relay McGrath won at 53–11.5.
Glacier’s Ethan Kastilitz placed fourth in the javelin with a PR of 166–8; Tyler Krum of Capital won 186–1. Coal Opre tied for the fifth in Thursday’s pole vault and added 1.5 points for the pack.
Galatin used Finnish 1-2 in 800 from Isabel Ross and Hazel Cooper, with the first day lead in the girls team race. Through eight incidents, the raptors had 50 marks 47 for Helena and 35 for Glacier.
Helena’s Madillin Todorovich was a blot on Friday, winning a long jump, 400 meters and high jump. Not counting the relay, senior now has seven career state titles – two of them in 300 hurdles, which is Saturday.
Lauren Bisen’s victory in 3,200 was large for Wolfpack; So Breanna Barnes was the pole vault title. Senior approved 11-6, a PR, and won the 10th time in 12th time in this season.
Barns Glacier is the first girls pole vault champion from High.
Pack was ranked sixth in 400 from Carmen Dedi, and Alyssa Wolurtsen and Dasi Benkelman left 4–5 in 800. Ellie Krugger was ranked fifth in shot put; Jadine Paye finished third in high jump.
Flathead scored five points on Friday: Josi Wilson was fourth in 3,200 and Sixth in the Everett Holland 800. Both hit PRS.
