Even Smith was not sure what happened, As he told the “NHL on TNT” panel after the game,
“From my angle, it seemed that it collides with the middle bar, but it turned out so fast and I was not really sure that the time was over,” Smith told NHL on the TNT panel postgame. “And then I take a glimpse in the referee, and he is telling me,” It didn’t go inside, “So lucky we were able to get something over time with time.”
Golden Nights made a lot of effort to go to just one point, where a miracle target could win the game for them. Oilors were above 2–0 in both games and series after 12 minutes on Saturday, but Vegas responded with Smith and Nicholas Roy’s goals within a minute of each other at the end of the first period.
The knights took a lead over a late Carlson goal in the second period, to lose an edge on the punch of an intestine from the connerful McDavid only three minutes left. And then, Smith.
