He was over 1,000 days between winning, but Justin Thomas finally returned to the top.
Thomas submerged a deep Birdi put on the first playoff hole to defeat Andrew Novak and win the RBC heritage on Sunday afternoon. He fired a bogie-free 68, and then a massive celebration on Green after his first win after the 2022 PGA championship.
A $ 3.6 million check also came with that victory.

As is a signature event on RBC Heritage PGA Tour, it introduced a $ 20 million purse. It is just shy about what the Masters offered last week, and this season is equivalent to some of the biggest awards on the tour.
Thomas have come close to winning in recent years. In the last season, he had six top-10 finish, including a runner-up Finnish in the Zozo Championship, and also entered this season with a pair of runner-up finish this week. Thomas finished second in the American Express in January and then again in the Valoster Championship in March. He is not making a single cut in 10 in this season, and he is coming from a T36 finish at Augusta National last week.
But Thomas was great from jumping this week. He matched the course record with 61 on Thursday, and held his first 36-hole lead in about four years after Friday. He then held late and, Novak, after missing the 8-foot to win in regulation, fully handled the playoffs and finally won.
There is a look here how much Thomas and the rest of the region earned in Hilton Head, South Carolina this week.
